February 12, 2009

Pew Research Center:A recent Pew Research Center Social & Demographic Trends survey asked Americans the following question: "Just for fun: Would you prefer to live in a place with more McDonald's or more Starbucks?"

McDonald's won 43 percent to 35 percent (the remainder had no preference) in a telephone survey among a nationally representative sample of 2,260 adults, conducted Oct. 3-19, 2008.

The survey also found:
  • More men than women chose McDonald's (46 percent to 41 percent)
  • Adults 65 and above chose McDonald's (48 percent), while 18-to-29 year olds chose Starbucks (49 percent)
  • People with annual incomes of $75,000 and above tended to choose Starbucks (48 percent), while those with incomes below $30,000 went with McDonald's (45 percent)
