After learning four employees working at a Chipotle location in Billerica, Massachusetts, weren't feeling well, Chipotle voluntarily closed the location for a full sanitization, Chris Arnold told FastCasual.com in an email. The Massachusetts Department of Health has not yet confirmed if the sick employees were positive for norovirus.
"No customers illnesses are connected to this restaurant," Arnold said. "Any employees who reported feeling ill will be held out of the restaurant until they fully recover."
Sandra Giroux, chair of the Billerica Board of Health, said the chain is in the process of throwing out all the food items and sanitizing the entire restaurant.
The incident comes just a few months after more than 140 Boston College students fell ill after dining at a Chipotle restaurant in Brighton, Massachusetts. On Dec. 9, 2015, health officials confirmed the students had contracted norovirus.
