MAD Greens opts for full disclosure

March 14, 2011

Denver-based MAD Greens has added nutritional information to both its printed menus and menu boards, in addition to its online nutritional calculator.

“Our customers are very health-conscious,” said Marley Hodgson, co-founder and CEO of MAD Greens. “The decision to add nutritional information to our menu boards made sense to our brand, and we’ve had a very positive response from our customers.”

In addition to information on its MAD salads and panini, MAD Greens has posted the nutritional information for its salad dressings on the glass divider where customers make their dressing choice. Hodgson notes that since the information was posted, sales of no-fat and low-fat dressings have increased.

“All of our dressings are made from scratch and contain only natural ingredients and no preservatives,” said Hodgson. “Our customers are choosing lower fat options, knowing that they still taste great.”

The change to MAD Greens’ menu boards comes a few months after the restaurant group launched an online nutritional calculator, which proved to be very popular with guests. The feature receives between 3,500 and 4,000 hits per month, and allows customers to track such information as calories, grams of protein, fat, carbs or sodium in every ingredient available on MAD Greens menu.

The menu boards also include menu items such as its new offering of popchips, Terra Chips and Stacy’s Pita Chips. Additionally, the restaurant group modified its MAD Kids menu. Instead of ala carte items, MAD Greens now offers a meal deal called “The Mini-Me,” which includes an entrée item with milk or small-sized drink with a cookie or fruit. Entrée options include sandwiches, a mini-salad, pasta salad or macaroni and cheese.
