A Louisville pizza restaurant has a new way for high-protein dieters to stay on their regimens without giving up pizza. Loui Loui's Authentic Detroit Style Pizza's new low-carbohydrate crust is the result of lots of research and customer taste-testing, according to a news release. The result is a tasty Detroit-style crust with less than one-third of the carbs of their regular version of the crust.
"I recently lost a significant amount of weight following a reduced carb diet, but I'm certainly not giving up pizza," said Loui Loui's Founder and President Michael Spurlock, in the release. "So, I worked with our kitchen staff and customers to develop a delicious pizza crust that represents a major reduction in carbohydrates without sacrificing taste and texture."
Customer service manager Kelly Smith said they trusted customers to taste-test several different versions of the low-carb crust and give honest feedback.
The restaurant leaders believe pizza makers must get on board the growing trends toward more healthful, but still great tasting restaurant offerings. This new crust, which is available for a 99-cent up-charge, addresses that need.
"Offering popular pizza styles and crusts is a great way to keep the menu relevant for customers and to stay competitive against the myriad of culinary offerings in the market today. This is the future of pizza," said General Manager Daniel Trevino.
