Large-scale corporate catering comes to Caviar with Zesty acquisition

Caviar food ordering platform's parent company, Square Inc., has acquired certain assets of another company-centered catering platform called Zesty. The acquisition will help Caviar strengthen and scale its growing corporate ordering business, called Caviar for Teams, to serve meals from the leading restaurants in the U.S. to companies of all sizes, a news release said.

With Zesty, Caviar for Teams adds catering designed especially to meet the needs of large corporate food programs, including:
•    Menu-planning tools and algorithms.
•    Complete order management.
•   "White-glove" catering logistics.
•    Nutrition and allergen customization, including a focus on healthy order options.

"Restaurants turn to Caviar to reach more diners and grow their businesses," Square's Caviar Lead Gokul Rajaram said in the release. "Expanding our corporate catering product with Zesty enables us to offer our restaurant partners another way to boost sales through higher-margin, large-format catering orders. Caviar is thriving, and we're excited to supercharge its success with Zesty and double down on an area with great opportunity to drive more growth for our business."

Caviar continues to grow as a full food-ordering platform, expanding from consumer delivery to consumer pickup, and now complete catering services. Caviar is among the first food delivery platforms to offer a corporate ordering product, beginning in 2014 with group ordering.

Two years ago, the company launched Caviar for Teams, which now offers a sophisticated group-ordering portal for large teams with options to order from multiple restaurants with detailed invoicing and other benefits. The addition of Zesty, gives Caviar the ability to extend full-fledged, white-glove corporate catering, allowing it to serve companies of all sizes, according to the release.

"We're thrilled to join Square and Caviar and continue helping companies feed their employees healthy, high-quality food," Zesty founder and CEO Chris Hollindale, said in the release. "We share the same philosophy of offering only the best food from top-quality restaurants, and we are excited by Square's passion for building smart tools to help restaurants grow."

Caviar's deep relationships with restaurants, integration with Square and focus on using technology to improve operations help restaurants of all sizes grow their sales and expand their reach, according to the release.
