La Madeleine opens first redesigned cafe

March 3, 2010

La Madeleine Country French Café is changing the look and feel of the ordering experience and has opened the first of its new prototype layout in North Dallas.

The company embarked on the changes in response to guest feedback, and the enhancements are focused on improving the ease, flow and efficiency of the ordering process and point-of-sale transaction for the dining room, retail and bakery. Additionally, the changes include an interior facelift of the 5,800-square-foot café, giving it a brighter atmosphere and allowing for more artisan culinary activities, such as artisan pastry work, to be showcased in a theater-style bakery for guests to observe.

"We are thrilled with the transformation of our café at Preston and Forest. We set out to enrich the ordering process by eliminating the confusion factor while placing the spotlight squarely on the artisan nature of our food, and we've done just that. It's exhilarating to see two years of planning come to life over a few weeks time," said Phil Costner, la Madeleine chief operating officer, in a news release.

Additional elements of the prototype restaurant include:
  1. A central ordering point: Moving away from the more open, and potentially confusing, ordering style, guests will now enjoy and benefit from faster and even better service by ordering from one main ordering point.
  2. Menu boards: Highly visible signage and menu boards will provide images to assist guests in making choices.
  3. Menu simplification: A menu that clarifies and simplifies choices will help ensure more accuracy and speed in the ordering process.
  4. An enhanced food delivery system: All orders will be delivered to guest tables. In addition, there will be less wait time and more efficiency on ordered items.
  5. Retail offerings: Retail products such as coffee, the restaurant's signature Tomato Basil Soupe, premium Salade Dressings and fresh artisan bread will be more guest accessible. The new bakery area will showcase 10 new artisan breads available for purchase.
  6. Increased seating: The reconfigured footprint provides an additional 10 percent seating capacity.
  7. Kitchen upgrades: Remodeling and new functionality in the gourmet kitchen features numerous upgrades and the addition of state-of-the-art equipment.
  8. A new look: More contemporary décor accents and accessories accentuate the overall dining-room facelift which will brighten and open the space. Staff uniforms have been updated as well to compliment the overall experience.
