Killer Burger, a Portland-based chain known for unconventional toppings, will open its first Houston location, continuing a rapid expansion across the Lone Star State.
"Texas has been an incredible growth market for us," Adam Sanders, CEO of Killer Burger, said in a company press release. "We're not trying to be just another burger spot — we're here to bring something bold and different."
The restaurant, located at 1909 Taylor St., in the Sawyer Heights neighborhood, marks the brand's third Texas site following two openings in San Antonio last year. The expansion is part of a broader push to transition the Pacific Northwest favorite into a national fast-casual contender.
Operated by a local franchise group, with day-to-day operations led by industry veteran Hallie Nugent, the store is the first of several planned for the Houston market under a multi-unit franchise agreement.
Founded in 2010, Killer Burger has built a "cult" following around its "no-shortcuts" approach and signature offerings, such as the Peanut Butter Pickle Bacon Burger. The brand has spent nearly a decade racking up "Best Burger" accolades in its home region before setting its sights on the South.
The company's strategic focus on Texas will intensify throughout the year. Killer Burger plans to open two additional locations in Austin this summer, alongside new Pacific Northwest outposts in Corvallis, Oregon and Boise, Idaho.
With 28 locations operating across company-owned and franchised models, the brand is banking on an updated technology suite and a scalable franchise program to maintain consistency as it grows.
