Johnny Rockets announced plans today to open 14 mall-based locations this year.The chain has more successful in malls, where one-third of its restaurants operate, said Johnny Rockets Global Operations and Development President James Walker.
"Over the last several years, mall management has been looking to add diversity to its food courts and expand its lunch and dinner offerings to include more full-service and fast casual concepts. …" he said. "As malls revamp and add higher-end retail, more unique food offerings and entertainment venues—movie theaters and bowling alleys — Johnny Rockets' various prototype options provide something for every demographic and geographic region."
In its 30th year, the chain recently announced a brand refresh, including a new restaurant design and logo. The menu is also getting a refresh with old favorites like milk shakes now supplemented by new offerings like craft sodas and floats.
The design premiered at the chain’s Destiny USA Mall location in Syracuse, New York. It includes modern technology and enhanced uniforms, along with a new look. The chain said in a news release since that make-over, that restaurant location has experienced 22 percent growth in sales.
