Immigrant Food — a fast casual brand with a cause of offering workspace for immigrant-focused non-profit groups — will open this November a block from the White House.
Co-founders are Ezequiel Vázquez-Ger and Enrique Limardo, who also own the restaurant, Seven Reasons. Limardo is chef of Seven Reasons and is designing the menu for Immigrant Food, according to a Washingtonian report.
Schechter told the Washingtonian he was motivated to open Immigrant Food over a year ago when President Donald Trump began focusing on migration issues.
"Each one of us, at some moment, gets particularly touched by one of [Trump’s] rants," he told the publication. "We all do things in our own ways. I thought, 'Where do immigrants always share their culture first with fellow Americans?' It’s food."
Immigrant Food will also include an "engagement menu," offering options on how customers can donate and support immigrant causes, according to the report.
The restaurant also plans to publish a free online magazine focusing on a variety of immigrant-related issues.
