Firehouse Subs announced in a news release that not only hahs it opened its 1,000th restaurant, but to celebrate, it has donated $1 million to the AED (Automatic Electronic Defibrillator) Gift Campaign. That campaign seeks to put the life-saving devices in the hands of the nation's police officers for their use with those suffering cardiac events.
"Building a brand of 1,000 units is not a common feat in our industry and Firehouse Subs is thrilled to join the less than 40 brands who have this distinction," Don Fox, CEO Firehouse of America, said in a company press release.
Firehouse Subs founders, Chris and Robin Sorenson — who are also both former firefighters — know the value of those devices firsthand.
"There are endless untold stories of lives saved because an AED was in the right place at the right time," said the Sorensons in a news release about the donation. "But also (there are) just as many lives ... lost because these devices are not readily available. Each of the 1,000 Firehouse Subs restaurants will have the opportunity to grant an AED to the police department of choice in that area. Through this initiative, we hope to better equip police officers and save even more lives in the process."
