FDA's Reportable Food Registry discusses first results

The FDA will hold a conference call with media to discuss the first seven months of operation of the Reportable Food Registry, the electronic portal required by Congress through which manufacturers (and foodservice providers, in the terms of a still-pending Food Safety Bill) must report possible health hazards in food. FDA Deputy Commissioner for Foods Michael R. Taylor will be among call participants.

The registry is currently a voluntary tool for reporting suspect food. One version of the Food Safety Bill could require restaurants to use the feature. Some industry leaders believe that could mean significant administrative compliance costs for restaurants.
