Dos Toros Taqueria has jumped into the retail industry with the launch of bottled hot sauces. Available on its website or in its 19 units, the options include Smokey, Verde or Habanero. Consumers may purchase them individually for $8 or in a 3-pack "hot box" for $24, Leo Kremer, co-Founder of Dos Toros, said in an interview with FastCasual.
"This foray into retail gives Dos Toros a way to try out a completely new line of business while helping support greater brand awareness as we continue to open additional restaurants, Kremer said. "Bottled hot sauce also opens up an e-commerce channel that was previously closed to us, allowing for a whole new level of marketing and engagement.
Kremer said he was partially inspired to bottle his sauces after seeing the success that Cava, a Washington D.C.-based Mediterranean chain from DC, had with its line of hummus and other spreads in Whole Foods.
"If the hot sauce becomes something bigger then we'll go from there, and if it stays as a more niche offering that's ok, too," Kremer said. "We're excited to see what opportunities present themselves. Either way, we think our signature hot sauces really set us apart, so it's exciting to have this opportunity to share them with others."
Dos Toros is based in NYC, and the 20th unit will open by the end of the year in Chicago.
