Dickey's Barbecure Pit is launching a new program aimed at helping protect police officers.
Customers can purchase a ballistic vest for $500 to protect a police officer from sniper bullets and high-powered ammunition.
Dickey's Barbecue Pit's charity, Barbecue, Boots & Badges is teaming up with Angel Armor for the program, "Invest in a Vest," which encourages customers to donate to Angel Armor's lifesaving work, according to a press release.
“Barbecue, Boots & Badges aims to serve those who protect us,” Commissioner Maurine Dickey, the founder and spokesperson of Dickey’s foundation, said in the release. "Our first responders put their lives on the line for us every day, and we hope to provide this state of the art equipment to make their jobs safer."
According to the press release, ballistic vests have saved the lives of over 3,000 law enforcement officers.
"The risk of dying from a gunshot wound to the torso is 3.4 times higher for law enforcement officers who do not wear armor vests,” said Nathan James, analyst in Crime Policy for the Congressional Research Service, in the release.
