Corner Bakery rolls out bus tour fundraiser to fight child hunger

July 22, 2014

Corner Bakery Cafe is calling on educators to help kick off its summer-long fundraiser for Share Our Strength’s No Kid Hungry campaign to end childhood hunger through a multi-city bus tour taking place this month.

On July 23 in Chicago and July 29 in Washington, D.C., Corner Bakery Cafe will invite local teachers aboard its double-decker “Crave Cruiser” for a day of food and giving back. The teachers will compete in challenges, such as pancake flipping, to raise money for a local summer meals site. After a tour of the city, the Crave Cruiser will drive the educators to a No Kid Hungry summer meals site in each market to deliver Blueberry Lemonade Bundt Bites and Old Fashioned Lemonade for the kids and volunteers. Corner Bakery Cafe will also donate $1,000 to each summer meals program.

“Every year Corner Bakery Cafe looks forward to helping end childhood hunger through our partnership with No Kid Hungry,” CMO Diana Hovey said in the release. “This year is extra special because we are partnering with teachers who have made it their lives’ work to help children by bringing attention to this very serious problem.”

The two-city program highlights Corner Bakery Cafe’s in-cafe fundraiser for No Kid Hungry. From July through September, Corner Bakery will donate a portion of the proceeds from the sale of every Frozen Lemonade, Lemon Whoopee Pie and Blueberry Lemonade Baby Bundt to the No Kid Hungry campaign. For every dollar it receives, No Kid Hungry can connect a child with up to 10 healthy meals, the release said.

Since 2008, Corner Bakery Cafe has raised more than $1.2 million in support of No Kid Hungry. Last year, Corner Bakery Cafe raised more than $250,000.
