Chipotle to use dairy from pasture-raised cows
November 8, 2007
DENVER —Chipotle Mexican Grill founder and CEO Steve Ells said the company will switch to using dairy products from pasture-raised cows. Ells made the announcement during Chipotle's investor-relations conference call Oct. 30.
Pasture raised cows don't need an antibiotic to remain healthy, and are well treated and enjoy a much longer life span, he said. "The result is not only a much more sustainable agricultural system, but better-tasting milk, which makes delicious sour cream and cheese for our restaurants."
Chipotle began to use rBGH-free sour cream last year and recently made the switch to rBGH-free cheese. The switch will be complete by the end of the year, the company said.
