Chipotle customers who use Venmo this week and are not part of the fast casual's loyalty program could find themselves a bit richer as the brand serves up free cash in a promotion to spread the word about its expanding rewards program.
By Friday, March 15, the chain could give away as much as $25,000 to new rewards program subscribers, according to a CNN report. The brand will award between $1 and $500 to approximately 25,000 new members daily, with reward amounts sent through Venmo.
The loyalty program, which is about seven months old, gives members points for in-app and online orders. The campaign with Venmo is aimed at getting greater exposure via social networking, according to CNN.
"Venmo, to us, is becoming an untapped social network," Chipotle CTO Curt Garner told CNN Business. "We're seeing people that are choosing Chipotle for the first time because we now have a very robust digital ordering experience."
