A great pilot test and the increasing American affinity for all things spicy is prompting Chipotle Mexican Grill to add full-flavored pork-and-chicken sausage, chorizo, to its menu beginning Oct. 4. The day, in case you did not know, is National Taco Day. The item tested very well in five markets in June, according to a news release.
"The reaction to chorizo in the cities that have had it has been overwhelmingly positive, so we're making it available in all of our restaurants across the country," said Chipotle Founder, Chairman and CEO Steve Ells, in a release. "Our chorizo is made with responsibly raised chicken and pork, and provides a delicious new option that fits perfectly with the rest of our menu."
Chorizo is a blend of pork and white-meat chicken spiked with paprika, toasted cumin and chipotle peppers, which is then seared to a special char on a hot grill.
