Chicken Salad Chick launched a new foundation aimed at funding the work of the American Cancer Society and ending hunger in America.
The Chicken Salad Chick Foundation will fund projects of special interest to owners Kevin and Stacy Brown.
Kevin Brown was diagnosed with Stage IV colon cancer in Nov. 2013 and is currently in treatment.
"From the moment of my diagnosis, I knew that contributing to finding a cure for this incredibly devastating disease was where our focus should be placed," says Kevin Brown. "We are also proud to concentrate on ending hunger in America. We feel that as a restaurant concept founded with an appreciation for health and family, feeding families in need closely aligns with who we are as an organization."
Barclay Smith will direct the foundation. Smith, a longtime friend of the Browns, has a Chicken Salad Chick menu item – the "Buffalo Barclay" – named after him.
During the month of September, which is designated as Hunger Action Month, the foundation will partner with Chicken Salad Chick locations and their respective local food banks and pantries. Chicken Salad Chick coupon books will be sold at participating locations, with the proceeds going toward fighting food insecurity in those communities.
The CSC Foundation will also host their first annual "Teeing Off on Cancer" event in October in Montgomery, Ala., with proceeds benefiting the American Cancer Society, the Montgomery Cancer Center and the Cancer Center at EAMC.
