As the U.S. government shutdown hits day 27, Chef Jose Andrés aims to help some of the 800,000 furloughed federal workers by providing food during the country's longest-ever closure.
He's opening a kitchen on Pennsylvania Avenue this week, stating in his Twitter feed, that "it's only fair to feed Americans in need!"
The pop-up culinary site is called "Chefs for Feds" and will be located at 701 Pennsylvania Avenue NW, with daily hours of 11 a.m. to 6 p.m, according to a CNBC report.
In a Twitter video feed Andres stated, "Today we face another type of disaster emergency in the United States,” and “No person should have to go through the pain of not knowing what to feed the children."
According to CNBC the Washington D.C. metro area has the largest concentration of federal workers in the nation.
This isn't the first time Andrés, who owns several restaurants, has doled out free meals for those in need. He's been nominated for a Noble Peace Prize for his extensive efforts to help Puerto Rico residents following Hurricane Maria.
