MINNEAPOLIS — Comparable-store sales at Caribou Coffee Company Inc. increased 1 percent for the 13-week period ended Sept. 30, 2007, compared with the same period last year, the company announced. Comps for the year to date were flat compared with the previous year.
Franchise stores are excluded from the comp sales calculation.
Sales for the 13-week period were approximately $62 million, an increase of 9 percent over the same period last year year. Year-to-date sales were up 10 percent over the previous year.
"Other sales," which consist of sales to commercial customers, franchisees, mail order and Internet sales, increased 49 percent to $3.8 million during the 13 weeks compared with $2.5 million during the same period last year. For the year to date, "other sales" were up 46 percent compared with the same period last year.
Two company-owned and two franchised coffeehouses opened during the period, and the company closed 11 company-owned coffeehouses. As of Sept. 30, 473 Caribou Coffee Company stores were in operation.
