Cali's Mozambique Steakhouse and Lounge launches fast casual concept

November 6, 2011

Upscale dining restaurant Mozambique Steakhouse and Lounge has announced that it will open a fast casual offshoot, Mozambique, in Newport Beach, Calif.

The menu, created by chef Elena Angelides features African-influenced items such as Peri-Peri Chicken, Peri-Peri Shrimp, curry's, Roti Wraps, salads and more; however, the menu prices will be significantly lower than at its upscale dining counterpart.

Customers will order their meals at a counter and will receive their food at the table.

Owner Ivan Spiers, who created Mozambique Steakhouse and Lounge, plans on opening eight to 10 Mozambique restaurants throughout San Diego, Los Angeles and in Northern California.

The restaurant company has hired the same design group to craft its first location, which will measure between 1,800-2,000 square feet and will have outside seating available. Beer and wine will be served and a catering menu will be available.

To commemorate the opening of Mozambique, customers will have the chance to win a trip for two on South African Airways (SAA) to Mozambique.
