After establishing himself as a leader on the Indian restaurant scene in Georgia with his fine-dining restaurant — Sankranti — Srivivasa "Nimms" Nimmagadda is taking on the fast casual industry.

The father, husband and tech guru is opening another version of Sankranti, which he described as the "Indian version of Chipotle or Panda Express." It allows guests to place orders at the counter and have access to health-conscious, quick options.

"We're going to continue making really good food and offer our franchisees the opportunity to invest in a unique concept and grow their own businesses," said Nimmagadda, who is opening the first location by year's end in Dunwoody, Georgia, with 10 more coming over the next few years.

"The goal is to make Indian food mainstream," Nimmagadda said. "We're bringing Indian food to everyone."

Nimmagadda, who hopes to attract franchisees with an entrepreneurial spirit and love for Indian cuisine and culture, is seeking multi-unit franchise deals with an initial franchise fee of $30,000 and $22,500 for each additional franchise location.

The journey to the fast casual industry
After graduating with his bachelor's degree in electronics and communication engineering from Bangalore University in 1993, Nimmagadda immigrated to America in 1997, landing in Portland, Maine. Shortly after, he married his wife Kavitha, and they worked odd jobs at convenience and retail stores to support the consulting firm Nimmagadda had started in their basement.

That eventually became Vensai Technologies Inc., which is now a multimillion-dollar software development company that maintains global delivery centers in the U.S. and India.

Giving back
Food and tech aren't Nimmagadda's only passion, however. In 2009, he became inspired to further devote time and resources to charity. He and Kavitha established the Vensai Foundation, which supports helping homeless children as well as the American Cancer Society in Georgia.

He has served as secretary and vice president of the North America Shirdi Sai Temple and is an active member of the Metro Atlanta Chamber of Commerce. With each of his business ventures, his ultimate goal is to make enough to continue giving to causes he cares about.
