Captain D's has opened a new franchised restaurant in Abingdon, Virginia — the chain's 23rd Virginia location. A news release said that the new store marks the beginning of more aggressive franchise development in the area around the nation's capital. The store will be operated by a private equity group that already operates 16 Captain D's restaurants in four states. The group intends to launch three more locations within the next three years.
According to a release, the unnamed firm's vice president of operations, Chris Benner, will spearhead this venture, relying on 20 years of previous experience in food service management.
"As a veteran of the food service industry, I've witnessed firsthand the countless fast casual brands that have come and gone over the last two decades, but few offer the immense potential for success as Captain D's," Benner said. "From its distinctive signature products to the outstanding support system in place for franchisees, the company is positioned uniquely in the fast casual arena, which made it the obvious choice for us,"
Captain D's just finished its 19th consecutive quarter of system-wide growth. Much of the credit for this was given to a restaurant redesign, which has been implemented in half of the chain's locations. The release said 50 more restaurants will be redesigned to the new standard by year's end.
