Zoup Eatery has debuted a smaller prototype in Boardman, Ohio. Designed to serve the same number of customers of an average-sized Zoup, the new model will operate within 1,300- to 1,600-square spaces.
"The need for large dining areas is giving way to speed, convenience and contactless interactions," Robert Kirma, director of New Restaurant Development, said in a company press release.
The 1,474-square-foot Boardman location can seat 29 guests and has an improved in-store process catering to delivery and takeout orders.
"Other changes improved the pick-up and carryout areas customers are now looking for," Kirma said. "The soup sampling Zoup is known for is still offered but with a more efficient design. The ordering/main queuing line is smoother and we see an increase in speed and a reduction in bottlenecks. The kitchen area is also smaller and more efficient."
The smaller space leads to reduced construction costs, lower utility charges and cheaper rent.
"Ideal locations for Zoup are near retail, residential and the white-collar daytime office population," Richard Zimmer, Zoup's director of Franchise Development, said in the release. "There is always competition looking for spaces in that demographic, but the smaller size combined with Zoup's in-house construction team gives our owners an advantage. Our team can make almost any space work."
Founded in 1998 in Detroit, Zoup has nearly 70 locations.
