Zoup Eatery is ushering in soup season with Alligator Gumbo, inspired by the flavors of Creole cuisine, according to a company press release.
Available through Dec. 31 or while supplies last, the gumbo features onions, bell peppers, celery, farm-raised alligator from Louisiana, crawfish, andouille sausage as well as its proprietary seafood broth and a blend of spices and rice.
"In creating Alligator Gumbo, we set out to take our guests on a culinary journey to the Louisiana bayou with authentic flavors that include farm-raised alligator, a lean and healthy protein choice," Jessica Wainwright, Zoup director of Culinary Innovation, said in the release. "One of the great things about food is the way it brings people together through shared experiences and conversations about different cuisines and cultures, which is ultimately what we hope to deliver to our guests."
While it may be a unique food option to some, alligator meat is consumed in many parts of the world like Australia, Thailand, the Philippines, South Africa, as well as in the southern region of the U.S., according to the release.
Zoup has previously introduced customers to unique game proteins such as its Rattlesnake Rabbit Stew as a limited-time menu item.
In addition to the Gumbo, the fall menu includes Pumpkin Pie Bisque, Wicked Maple Harvest and Ginger Butternut Squash soup.
Founded in 1998, Zoup has nearly 100 restaurants in the U.S. and Canada and sells its broth in 12,000 retail locations.
