Chicago-based Wow Bao is upping its retail game by partnering with 44 Mariano's locations to sell its Hot Asian Buns — soft, steamed buns filled with savory and sweet flavors. Each retail package contains four cooked 2.5-ounce frozen bao portions and will launch with a price of two $10 (regular $5.99 each), according to Wow Bao President Geoff Alexander FastCasual.

"More than just another revenue stream, our frozen retail line has allowed us to both market the Wow Bao brand, and educate/ introduce consumers to bao," he said about the chain's frozen retail line which was already available in nearly 300 grocery stores across the Midwest. "We are always looking to expand our distribution and introduce our signature bao to new markets. Now that we are in all Jewel and Mariano's locations in the Chicagoland area, we look forward to working with other brands across the country."

Wow Bao first launched in 2003, in Chicago and has since expanded to more than a dozen locations including airports, stadiums and college campuses. It was the top brand in Fast Casual's list of 2018 Top 100 Movers & Shakers.
