Wingstop heads south of the border

January 6, 2011

Wingstop is spreading its wings even wider in Mexico through a 20-unit expansion agreement with international franchisee WIS de Mexico S.A. de C.V.

The Texas-based chain will add the stores throughout the next three years.

Franchise owners Jose Luis Serrato Villegas, Luis Antonio Ortiz Dominguez and Jose Francisco Cantu Quintero opened six Wingstop locations in Mexico City in 2010 as part of an original 10-store franchise agreement. The partners will add to that success with an additional 20 stores throughout Mexico including Mexico DF, Estado de Mexico, Puebla, Morelos, San Luis Potosi, Queretaro, Guerrero, Quintana Roo and Jalisco.

“We have achieved so much since opening our first Wingstop in Satélite,” said Jose Luis Serrato Villegas. “We’ve developed a delivery system, have six stores in operation, celebrated our grand opening with Troy Aikman and created wing fans across the city. We look forward to taking this next step and continuing to bring Wingstop wings to our guests.”

Wingstop was founded in 1994 and is headquartered in Richardson, Texas. There are more than 475 restaurants open across the United States and Mexico. Troy Aikman, three-time Super Bowl champion and Hall of Fame quarterback, has served as the chain’s national spokesman since 2003, and in 2010, the company was acquired by Atlanta-based Roark Capital Group.
