Wingstop enjoys back-to-school sales boost

September 20, 2006

DALLAS — College students across the country are showing their love for The Wing Experts. From Gainesville, Fla., to Tucson, Ariz., to Long Beach, Calif., Wingstop locations near colleges and universities recently watched sales skyrocket as fall semesters began.

Wingstop restaurants near the University of Arizona, Arizona State University, the University of Florida and New Mexico State all enjoyed a more than 30 percent jump in sales. Wing sales also are up by an average of about 25 percent in cities with multiple locations like Tallahassee, Fla., (home of Florida State University) and Lubbock, Texas (home of Texas Tech University). Additionally, Wingstop's newest restaurant in Long Beach, Calif., set a new sales record during the first week of classes at California State University, Long Beach.

"College students make up a major portion of our key demographic, and whenever we can open a restaurant near a campus it's always a big plus," said Jim Flynn, chief executive officer of Wingstop Restaurants Inc. "It's a coveted group because they are mostly young and informed consumers who tend to eat out a lot. We're extremely happy and grateful to have their business."
