White Rhino Coffee acquires Emporium Pies

White Rhino Coffee, a Dallas-based specialty coffee company, has acquired Emporium Pies, a North Texas dessert chain known for its handcrafted pastries.

The acquisition merges two majority women-owned local businesses. While financial terms of the deal were not disclosed, White Rhino CEO Sara Escamilla confirmed that Emporium Pies will continue to operate under its current brand identity.

Emporium Pies was founded in 2012, in the Bishop Arts District by Addie Roberts, Landon Perdue and Jen Abohosh. What began as a small operation in a 1930s Victorian bungalow has since expanded to four locations, including shops in Deep Ellum, McKinney and Fort Worth.

The baking staff and Roberts will remain with the company to maintain the consistency of the recipes.

"Emporium Pies has built an extraordinary legacy," Escamilla said in the release. "Their products are consistently excellent, impeccably crafted, and beloved. Every pie is made with the highest quality ingredients. To be able to support and grow a concept of this caliber is an honor."

Roberts, who will continue working alongside the baking team, stated that the merger reflects a shared philosophy between the two companies.

"Part of our shared mission is hospitality and giving people a reason to celebrate," Roberts said in the release. "There's something about dessert that brings people joy in a way nothing else can, and we're thrilled to see that legacy carried forward."

White Rhino Coffee, founded in 2007, operates multiple cafés across North Texas. The company plans to explore expanding the Emporium Pies footprint within the Dallas-Fort Worth area.

While immediate operations will remain unchanged, the company noted plans for future menu integrations, including coffee and pie pairings.

"For now, it simply means coffee and pie — two of life's best comforts — can be enjoyed across both brands," Escamilla said.
