WaBa Grill, a Southern California-based rice bowl chain, has promoted industry veteran Afshin Compani to president and chief operating officer.
The appointment, announced Thursday, comes as the company prepares to mark its 20th anniversary and seeks to surpass 200 locations. Compani, who has more than 30 years of experience in the restaurant industry, previously held leadership roles at Taco Bell, Yum Restaurants International and El Pollo Loco.
In his new role, Compani will oversee systemwide operations, franchise performance and the company's strategic expansion.
"Afshin brings the kind of operational discipline and restaurant know-how that earns trust at every level of the organization," Andrew Kim, CEO of WaBa Grill, said in a company press release. "He's been a key part of strengthening our foundation and setting WaBa Grill up for what's next."
The company is targeting a growth phase that includes reaching both 200 units and $200 million in sales during its 20th year.
Founded in Los Angeles, the chain specializes in grilled protein bowls and plates. The company noted that the leadership shift is intended to provide stability for the brand during a period of expansion.
