Velvet Taco plans to add 14 locations

Velvet Taco, a Dallas-based chain serving tacos with international flare, plans to open at least 14 locations by the end of 2022, according to a company press release.

Currently, the brand has 26 stores, but it plans to reach 40 within 16 months. Two locations, in College Station, Texas and Norman, Oklahoma, are set to open next week, followed by planned openings in Charlotte and Nashville.

Recently, Velvet Taco reconfigured several kitchens into two separate production lines, one dedicated to delivery and takeout orders and one for dine-in, and changed food preparation processes which has allowed average ticket times to be cut in half and raised sales by 15%, according to the release.

Some brand locations have crossed $100,000 in opening week sales and off-premise sales account for more than 50% of overall sales, almost doubling its 2019 totals.
