Urban Plates opening in Long Beach

December 16, 2019

Urban Plates opened Monday at 2ND & PCH in California — Long Beach's waterfront retail and dining development. The 5,138-square-foot restaurant offers indoor-outdoor seating, including a pet-friendly patio and expansive communal tables, according to a press release.

The location, while true to Urban Plates' classic warming aesthetic, includes fresh design features like tufted banquettes, floor-to-ceiling storefront windows, and globally inspired décor items selected by the restaurant staff, according to the release.

Debuting with a continued #GoodIsServed social media campaign, the restaurant team invites fans to share their "do good moments" this holiday season. For every Instagram post highlighting a fan's own "do good" moment (tagging @UrbanPlates and the hashtag #GoodIsServed), Urban Plates Long Beach will donate a meal to the Volunteer Center South Bay-Harbor-Long Beach, a Torrance-based non-profit that addresses the South Bay community's most urgent needs. Live through Jan. 1, 2020, Urban Plates will donate up to 500 meals as part of this campaign, according to the release.

"Our ethos is simple — we believe in wholesome, delicious food made from scratch," Urban Plates Head of Culinary Jim Cannon said in the release. "We work with farmers, ranchers, and suppliers we trust to source sustainable, real ingredients and create accessible meals for every dietary preference that won"t break the bank. We're delighted to welcome the Long Beach neighborhood to our table and share our mission with the community."

Founded in 2011, Urban Plates has 19 units that combine the seasonal freshness and variety of a food marketplace with a commitment to culinary integrity. All menu items are prepared on-premise daily (no commissary kitchens) using thoughtfully sourced ingredients, including fresh produce; GMO-, antibiotic- and hormone-free, grass-fed and finished steak; line-caught tuna; sustainably sourced seafood; and humanely raised and sourced, cage-free, hormone-free chicken, according to the release.
