Tijuana Flats busts into Richmond

April 18, 2018

Tijuana Flats busted into Richmond, Virginia, urging residents to follow clues from a local radio station and social media to locate and bust open one of a dozen giant piñatas that popped up in locations ranging from Virginia Commonwealth University and the University of Richmond, to the Children's Museum and Lombardy Park.  The taco, avocado and other Tex-Mex piñatas were stuffed with sunglasses, beer cozies, coupons and other treats from the new restaurant located at 4925 W. Broad St., in the Shops of Willow Lawn, according to a company press release.

"Richmond is a vibrant and exciting town that's not afraid of having some fun, making it the perfect place to introduce the famously Flat Outrageous attitude that Tijuana Flats is known for," said Adam Moore, area supervisor, said in the release. "We are excited for our new home and can't wait to start serving our always-fresh Tex-Mex to the hungry people of Richmond. We see a lot of future Flatheads coming out of this market."

Through training meals conducted prior to opening, Tijuana Flats has already raised about $1,000 for the Children's Hospital of Richmond at VCU, which the restaurant has selected as its community partner through its Just in Queso foundation.  In addition, 20 percent of the sales generated Saturday will go to the Children's Hospital.

In addition to the opening week events, Tijuana Flats is promoting its “Megajuana” menu selections, which include double protein and cheese on burritos, burrito bowls, and dos tacos for an additional $1.50. The restaurant is also celebrating Cinco de Mayo from May 4-6 with $2 tacos and $2 Mexican drafts all weekend.
