Thunder Burger to dish up presidential meal

January 8, 2013

In celebration of the presidential inauguration on Jan. 21, Thunder Burger's chef has selected a meal to serve customers that he thinks President Obama and the First Lady would choose.

"Picking the presidential meal is a fun and challenging task that we look forward to," said Ryan Fichter, executive chef of Thunder Burger, located in Washington D.C. "In our pick, we wanted to incorporate a little of the President's Hawaiian roots. We think this is a meal that the First Family would enjoy, as well as those looking for an authentic inauguration meal."

The meal includes:

  • An appetizer of Hawaiian-style Ahi poke (pronounced poh-keh), which is a long-time favorite on the islands.
  • The burger for the President would feature the local moco, which is two scoops of rice with a burger patty on top, then topped with two fried eggs over easy, and then further topped with brown gravy.
  • The burger pick for the first lady would be the salmon burger with watercress, topped with heirloom tomato and herbed cucumber yogurt sauce.
  • For dessert there would be macadamia nut pie, served alongside Kona-coffee ice cream.

"This is one meal that the first family would love," said Fichter. "It is authentic and tasty, and it has a little bit of home in every bite. Those who want to try this meal can stop by Thunder Burger on the day of the inauguration. We will proudly be serving up this presidential pick."
