The Whimsy Cookie Company has rolled out a gluten-free version of its signature sugar cookie.
"It was important that we offer a cookie that can be enjoyed by everyone," Whimsy President John Kutac said in a company press release. "Last year the gluten-free market was valued at over $9 billion in the U.S. and is only expected to go up from there. We think not only is this a value for our company, but is also something that is in demand from our guests."
Made from four gluten-free super fine flours, the cookies don't taste gritty, founder Laurie Suriff said in the release.
"We are thrilled to be adding more cookies to our stores, especially a cookie that everyone can enjoy," she said. "Whimsy Cookie Company is committed to continuing to innovate and provide our fans with new yummy creations."
Conceptualized in 2006 based off of a family sugar cookie recipe, Suriff started the business out of her family's home in Memphis. Collins Tuohy, the daugther of Leigh Anne Tuohy, also the mother of former NFL player Michael Oher and famed by Hollywood blockbuster, "The Blind Side," became a co-owner in 2012. It began franchising in 2018 and has locations in the South, and is looking to build the brand, according to the release.
