Sweetgreen launches macro-tracking tool, expands protein options

Sweetgreen is embracing the consumer shift toward high-protein diets by launching a macronutrient-tracking tool across its digital platforms and highlighting menu items with 30 or more grams of protein.

The digital feature allows customers to view detailed protein, carbohydrate and fat information for every menu item. It also includes an in-app calculator that lets users see in real time how ingredient swaps affect a meal's overall nutritional breakdown.

The feature builds on earlier menu updates, which increased the amount of antibiotic-free chicken and tofu in entrees by 25%. Following these changes, Sweetgreen now offers nine scratch-made entrees with over 30 grams of protein.

"At Sweetgreen, we're always looking for ways to use technology to support personalization and to better serve our customers," Wouleta Ayele, Sweetgreen's chief technology officer, said in a press rleease. "The new macro tracking tool is designed to give guests more transparency and control, helping them make choices that fit their goals and enhance their everyday lives."

The company is positioning the update as a response to a cultural movement around fitness and protein, contrasting its "real food" focus with bars, powders and fortified snacks.

Top-selling entrees that now feature higher protein counts include the Hot Honey Chicken with 52 grams, the Harvest Bowl with 40 grams and the Chicken Pesto Parm with 39 grams.

"As people look for food that's both better for them and aligned with their evolving nutritional needs, we're continuing to lead the charge by making real, nourishing meals easier to access and enjoy every day," Zipporah Allen, Sweetgreen's chief commercial officer, said in the release.

All of Sweetgreen's proteins — including chicken, salmon, and steak — are antibiotic-free, roasted in-house and prepared fresh daily.

The company, publicly traded under the symbol SG, was founded in 2007 with a mission to connect people to real food.
