Surge in COVID-19 cases prompts Kolache Factory to reclose dining rooms

As Texas — Houston in particular — is experiencing a dramatic surge in COVID-19 cases, Kolache Factory is reclosing dining rooms and restrooms at all 27 of its corporate-owned restaurants, according to a company press release. They'll offer carry-out, curbside, or drive-thru service only. Although the corporate team is allowing franchise owners to decide the fate of the chain's 30 franchised units, it told FastCasual via email that it was strongly recommending the closure of all dining rooms.

Kolache closed all dining rooms nationwide on March 16 but reopened to 50% capacity (or in keeping with state guidelines) on June 12.

"With the surge, we are seeing right now in our country, we are taking the preemptive step of shutting down dining rooms at all corporate-owned locations, so we can protect our customers and employees as much as possible, encourage social distance, and continue serving our communities fresh made kolaches," Dawn Nielsen, Kolache Factory COO, said in the release. "We understand this is a scary time, but we are committed to doing our part to protect one another and our economy. We appreciate your patience and understanding and hope you will continue to place online orders."

Kolache Factory was founded in 1982 in Houston.
