Starbucks has introduced Green Dot Assist, a generative AI-powered virtual assistant designed to support the coffee giant's baristas in coffeehouses globally. The technology, announced at the company's Leadership Experience event, aims to streamline operations and enhance the in-store experience.
Green Dot Assist allows baristas, known as "green apron partners" at Starbucks, to ask questions on in-store iPads and receive instant, conversational responses, eliminating the need to consult physical manuals or search for answers. For example, the system can quickly provide ingredient reminders for seasonal beverages, helping partners feel more confident and deliver consistent customer service.
Deb Hall Lefevre, executive vice president and chief technology officer at Starbucks, said the innovation was intended to simplify access to essential information within the flow of work, making jobs easier for partners and building their expertise.
"This marks a significant step forward in our commitment to streamlining operations, reducing friction, and giving partners more time to focus on crafting beverages and connecting with customers," Lefevre said in a company announcement.
Starbucks is piloting Green Dot Assist in 35 coffeehouses, with plans for further expansion.
