Spiedie Bistro opens in southern Pa.
July 22, 2008
PHOENIXVILLE, Pa. — New fast-casual restaurant, Spiedie Bistro, has opened in Phoenixville, Pa., 30 miles west of Philadelphia.
Spiedie Bistro evolved from the spiedie (SPEE-dee), which is the Italian word "spiedo", meaning spit. The traditional sandwich, made with marinated lamb, pork, beef, or chicken was skewered and grilled over a spit, hence the name. Spiedie Bistro, Brian Laing, is a native of upstate New York and uses an authentic mixture of Italian oils and spices to create a traditional Spiedie sandwich.
Spiedie Bistro offers two of the more popular choices, chicken and pork, in addition to organic options such as grass-fed bison, tofu and Portobello mushrooms. Additionally, the menu features salads, soups and air-baked French fries.
