'Smoke' rolls in on Michigan Wolverines

June 21, 2017

French fries, cheese curds and gravy — sounds like the perfect college food —  doesn't it?

Apparently, that is exactly what the leaders at Canada-based Smoke's Poutinerie have been thinking because they have crossed the U.S. border to open a location in one of the nation's biggest college town, Ann Arbor, Michigan, home of Big 10 school, University of Michigan, according to a company press release.

The new location on South University Avenue sits at the school's footsteps and features a full bar, 40 beer taps and the cheesy, gravy-soaked French fry conglomeration made famous in North America's northernmost nation. It features a walk-up, street-side take-out window and an outdoor patio. The store design will be used in eight other units opening in some of America's largest universities in Michigan, Ohio and Indiana, according to the release.

"This is the wildest brand expansion the state of Michigan has ever seen," Detroit native and one of the brand expansion's leadership team members, Toine Murphy, in the release. "We've been waiting years for this moment."

Smoke's has more than 150 other locations and offers 30 varieties of poutine.
