Smashburger is expanding into select nationwide airports, according to a recent press release. Partnering with HMSHost, an airport beverage and food operator, the fast casual burger chain will soon serve customers at the Houston George Bush Intercontinental Airport; the Charlotte Douglas International Airport; and the San Jose International Airport. The Houston and the San Jose locations are slated to open in 2015, while the Charlotte unit should open by 2016.
“High-traffic destinations are a tremendous opportunity to put Smashburger in front of large numbers of people, generating awareness and trial at a rate that is more difficult to achieve at a traditional location,” Smashburger’s CEO Scott Crane said in the release. “To continue to grow in this area, we’re committing additional resources for airport development, including teams dedicated to strategic bidding, and thoughtful store and menu design, ensuring that each Smashburger airport location is run efficiently and effectively.”
According to the report, Smashburger has opened several locations in other airports, and the recent addition brought Smashburger’s count of non-traditional units to 18 locations.
