Smashburger event recognizes franchisees

December 2, 2010

Smashburger recently held its inaugural franchisee conference in Denver, honoring franchisees for achievement, commitment and excellence.

Among the event's highlights was an awards ceremony for Franchisee of the Year, Founder's Award, Operator of the Year and Leadership Award.

The Franchisee of the Year award went to Sun West Burger's Dave Doty, Chuck Riske, Robin Yoshimura and Kurt Riske of Phoenix. Sun West operates four Phoenix-area stores.

Smash Enterprises, in New Jersey, received the Founder's Award for its constructive feedback, results and leadership. The company operates four Smashburger units.

Smashburger's Operator of the Year Award was given to Amy Kessling, in partnership with Tom Rodenkirch of Rodenkirch Management Group. They operate two locations in Ohio and were recognized for setting a system standard in store-level execution.

The Leadership Award went to recipients who focus on recruiting, training and retaining the best employees. They include Jerry Gunderson and Mark Hattanas from SB Las Vegas.

"Smashburger was designed to win in the 'better burger' market," says Smashburger chairman and CEO David Prokupek. "Our franchisees' dedication, commitment and trust have enabled us to grow from concept to a winning and growing success story, and our award winners are leading the way."

Smashburger, based out of Denver, is on track to have more than 200 locations by 2012.
