South Florida’s Sloan’s Ice Cream has opened its first franchise location in Delray Beach, Fla., under the direction of David and Debra Olmo. (Click here to see more photos of the concept.)
“When I first stepped inside a Sloan’s store, I became a little kid all over again — I felt this incredible nostalgic feeling that made me never want to leave,” said David Olmo, a longtime business owner in South Florida with more than a quarter century of business ownership experience. “The creativity, energy and brilliant presentation of Sloan’s lured my wife and I in, and the ice cream is beyond incredible. Simply put, the stores are magical — their fantasyland atmosphere speaks to the inner child in all of us. Now, we get to bring this incredible concept to Delray Beach.”
The new Delray Beach location will include the treats and atmosphere that the chain is known for, including a variety of ice cream flavors, candies and bakery items; the brand’s signature pink walls and ceilings and plush toy collection and the glass bathroom with a window that fogs up when the guest inside pushes a big red button.
In addition to opening in Delray Beach, the Olmos have acquired the development rights to build and operate Sloan’s Ice Cream stores throughout the Miami and Ft. Lauderdale metropolitan area, as well as in Orlando, Key West and Naples. Their agreement calls for opening at least a dozen more new South Florida Sloan’s locations initially, with an opportunity to add on more units, according to the release.
Sloan’s opened its first store in 1999, and now has four locations in Palm Beach County, dozens of franchise units in development and expansion plans to add 200 franchise units in the next five to seven years, according to the release.
