South Florida-based Sloan’s Ice Cream announced plans to expand outside of Florida this fall for the first time with a new location in San Diego’s Westfield UTC Shopping Centre. According to a news release, Sloan’s is known for its “Willy Wonka-esque” store design, with pink and neon green walls and signage, candy, pastries and toys.
“We could not be happier to be expanding to California for the first time,” CEO Sloan Kamenstein said in the release. “When we knew we wanted to branch out into different markets, California — especially San Diego — made the most sense. This is a fantastic launching point for the brand’s growth in Southern California and beyond into key markets throughout the region.”
Construction on the new shop is set to launch early July, with an opening date set for Oct. 1.
The first Sloan’s Ice Cream store opened in 1999. There are now five locations in Palm Beach County, Fla. Kamenstein said San Diego is the first of many locations planned on the West Coast and nationwide. Sloan’s franchising initiative calls for 200 units in the next five to seven years.
