Skinny Pizza takes on grocery stores

September 12, 2018

Skinny Pizza, known for its build-your-own-pizza shops in Connecticut, New York, Pennsylvania, Texas and Saudia Arabia, is now selling its pies at the grocery store.

"Skinny Pizza, a clean label pizza, represents what every mom wants to feed the family," Joseph Vetrano, CEO and founder, said in a company press release. "We are thrilled for this enormous opportunity to finally bring Skinny Pizza to the supermarket chains.  I always asked why a healthy pizza can't be next to all the leading brands. Why do they need to be in a healthy food section?"

Vetrano's team began rolling out three flavors — Mozzarella & Provolone Cheese, Uncured Pepperoni and Gluten-Free Cheese — seven months ago in the frozen food sections at Shoprite, HEB and Giant Eagle. The brand has also partnered with the national brokers Alliance, Integrity and Acosta.

"Going from 300 units per week up to 700 units per week at (a) 130 percent increase and still climbing (is) one of the fastest growing brands I have seen in years," Gary Levin, an account executive with Alliance, said in the release. "When on promotion, the promotional lift is estimated at 500 percent. The product eats extremely well, and the best part is its good for you, imagine that, good for you and taste good both in the same sentence."

The company will roll out a Cauliflower Crust pizza by the end of the year, according to the release.
