Shake Shack going all in on in-app delivery

Shake Shack has launched the nationwide rollout of its own delivery service via the iOS Shake Shack app as part of a partnership with Uber Eats, according to a company press release.

Customers may choose delivery in the Shack App and track orders in real-time, with a 90-cent flat delivery fee and no delivery fee for orders over $35.

"With an influx of new and returning guests to our digital channels this past year, we've accelerated our digital investment," CEO Randy Garutti said in the press release. Delivery through the Shack app represents the latest innovation from Shake Shack and is reflective of our increasing focus on convenience across the broader Shake Shack experience."

The offering is the latest addition to Shack Track, Shake Shack's digital pre-ordering and fulfillment experience that allows guests to pre-order through the app or web and receive their food via walk-up windows, drive-up windows, curbside pickup, in-Shack pickup shelves and now in-app delivery.

The brand accelerated its digital investment and growth in response to the pandemic, with digital sales making up nearly 60% of total sales in the fourth quarter of 2020. Its app and web sales in the fourth quarter grew 3.5 times year-over-year, and, through January 2021, Shake Shack garnered over 2 million new first-time purchasers to those channels since early March 2020. As part of the investment, Shake Shack is building out its technology development team in collaboration with Uber Eats fulfillment, allowing for more direct contact with guests and ensuring the ultimate, frictionless experience.

To celebrate the launch, Shake Shack is offering free fries through March 31 with every delivery order over $15 through the Shack app with promo code GIMME.

In addition to offering delivery within the iOS Shack app, Shake Shack will eventually roll out delivery in the Android Shack app as well as add Apple Pay, Google Pay and contactless payment options.
