Twenty-year Goodcents franchisee Sam Singh thought he was ready to retire from his sandwich shop in Emporia, Kansas, but four months later he took over a Goodcents location in Shawnee, Kansas, according to a company press release.

Although he retired so he could move to be closer to his family, it wasn't long before he told them, "I don't know what to do now. There's only so much you can do with the grandkids."

That led him to partnering with his son, who had grown up in the store, to help him run the Goodcents in Shawnee.

"I've been helping him at the restaurant on weekends and at night since I was able to climb on a step stool," said Mike Singh, who will take over the family business someday when his dad actually retires.

"We are so glad to have Sam back to Goodcents and know he will do great things in Shawnee," Goodcents CEO Farrellynn Wolf said in the release. "We look forward to a long and successful relationship with the Singh family."

Founded 33 years ago in Lenexa, Kansas, Goodcents is headquartered in De Soto.
