Remodeled Fazoli's units report 12% sales lift

July 18, 2019

It looks like Fazoli's brand reboot is paying off. The chain ended Q2 with 3.9% sales growth and saw a 4.5% increase in franchise sales, with company locations increasing 4.1% in June, according to a company press release.

Fazoli'sbegan remodeling locations last year to have a more contemporary look and feel and added tableside grated Parmesan, upgraded plateware and new dishes, such as spicy penne with chicken or sausage, ultimate veggie rotini and a brownie gelato sundae.

"After seeing close to a 12% sales and traffic lift in remodeled locations, we are seeing existing franchisees jump on board," CEO Carl Howard, said in the release. "The Fazoli's team has worked tirelessly to bring down the current remodel expenditure, and it's now 75% less than where it started in 2016. It's significantly below what Fazoli's competitors are spending, and the results are unmatched with a very quick ROI."

Each of the chain's nearly 300 units will have have the upgraded format by 2021.

Fazoli's, based in Lexington, Kentucky, is using the momentum to grow its footprint, opening locations in Alabama and California and recently signing deals to add nine locations to its portfolio, according to the release. In an effort to keep up that pace, Howard said he's offering an incentive to franchisees developing at least three locations. They'll save at least $125,000, and those opening more than five locations will save over $200,000.
