Red Mango to open in Birmingham

May 10, 2010

Red Mangohas signed a development agreement with David Hurst to open three Red Mango locations in Jefferson County, Ala. Hurst plans to open the first store in Hoover this fall and is eyeing Birmingham for the second site.

Hurst is a Birmingham native and currently resides in Hoover. He has worked in his family's business at Hurst Pools, the oldest swimming pool contractor in Alabama, for nearly 30 years.

"My niece, who lives in California, told me how great the frozen yogurt market was doing on the West Coast," Hurst said. "I looked into Red Mango and realized the stores and environment offered the perfect place where people could just go and relax, eat well and feel good about the product they were consuming."

Red Mango opened its first store in Los Angeles in July 2007 and has grown to 60 locations across 14 states.

In April, the company signed its first development deal for Westchester County, N.Y. That same month, the company launched its Madagascar Vanilla flavor and opened its first airport location.
