It's going "down, down baby" Saturday as Raising Cane's teams up with rapper Nelly for a live stream concert celebrating 20 years of his album, "Country Grammar." To celebrate having sold more than 10 million copies, Nelly had planned an international anniversary tour, but COVID-19 had other plans. Instead, he will perform virtually at 9:30 p.m., Saturday on Facebook Live @RaisingCanesChickenFingers. Raising Cane's will host the performance which will be streamed from Lava Cantina in The Colony, Texas.
A longtime fan, Raising Cane's founder and CEO Todd Graves wants to spotlight Nelly's success.
"There are not many artists or albums that stand the test of time like Nelly and Country Grammar," Graves said in a company press release. "I've loved this album since my college days and I'm proud to call Nelly my friend. I want to celebrate him and his success with our Caniacs and give him the recognition he deserves. I know he will put on an incredible performance like he always does."
Nelly will perform songs like "Ride With Me" and "Batter Up," along with the title track and more from his Grammy-award winning album which debuted in 2000 and peaked at No. 1 on the Billboard chart.
The Nelly virtual concert follows more than 18 performances hosted by Raising Cane's since the pandemic first began, highlighted by a special Virtual Graduation Party starring Snoop Dogg (DJ Snoopadelic) and Shaquille O'Neal (DJ Diesel), and virtual concerts featuring Kevin Griffin, American Idol winner Laine Hardy and others.
Additional virtual concerts are in the pipeline, including one with country star Lee Brice.
Raising Cane's, which is only serving customers through drive-thru amid COVID-19, was founded by Todd Graves in 1996. It has more than 500 restaurants in 28 states, Bahrain, Kuwait, Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates, with multiple restaurants under construction.
